Context
Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, who later became President of Kenya, was summoned to appear before the ICC in connection with the 2007–2008 post-election violence in Kenya. The Pre-Trial Chamber II confirmed charges against him on 23 January 2012. However, on 5 December 2014, the Prosecution withdrew the charges, citing insufficient evidence, including challenges related to witness interference and lack of state cooperation. The proceedings were formally terminated.
