Context

Maxime Jeoffroy Eli Mokom Gawaka is an alleged senior leader of anti-Balaka forces in the Central African Republic. A warrant of arrest was issued under seal on 10 December 2018. He was surrendered to the ICC on 14 March 2022 and made his initial appearance on 22 March 2022. On 17 October 2023, Pre-Trial Chamber II terminated the proceedings following the Prosecution’s withdrawal of charges, and Mr Mokom was released from ICC detention on the same day.
