Context

Ismail Haniyeh was the head of the Hamas Political Bureau. The Prosecutor filed an application for a warrant of arrest against him on 20 May 2024 for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes committed on the territory of Israel and the State of Palestine from at least 7 October 2023. Haniyeh was killed on 31 July 2024 before a warrant could be issued. Proceedings were subsequently terminated.
