Context

Dominic Ongwen served as Brigade Commander of the Sinia Brigade of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). He voluntarily surrendered to the ICC on 16 January 2015 and was convicted on 4 February 2021 of 61 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between 1 July 2002 and 31 December 2005 in northern Uganda. He was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment.
