Context
Bosco Ntaganda was a senior military commander of the Union des Patriotes Congolais (UPC) and its armed wing, the Forces Patriotiques pour la Libération du Congo (FPLC), operating in the Ituri region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes committed between 2002 and 2003. He voluntarily surrendered to the ICC in 2013. On 8 July 2019, Trial Chamber VI found him guilty on multiple counts and sentenced him to 30 years of imprisonment. The Appeals Chamber confirmed the conviction and sentence. He is currently serving his sentence in Belgium, and reparations were set at USD 31,300,000.
